The Brussels Jazz Festival will mark its 10th anniversary with a special edition at Flagey from 9 to 18 January, organisers announced on Tuesday.
The festival kicks off on 9 January with a performance by renowned American saxophonist David Murray. On 10 January, the spotlight will shine on Belgian talents Simon Comté and Bram De Looze, alongside French singer and bassist Amy Gadiaga.
On Sunday, 12 January, the programme includes a screening of Johan Grimonprez’s documentary Soundtrack to a Coup d’État, which examines the role of jazz during Congo’s coup and the events following Patrice Lumumba’s assassination.
The Toots Thielemans Jazz Award will be presented on 14 January to the most promising jazz student from the Royal Brussels Conservatoire. This year’s winner, YuTing Li, will also perform that evening.
