Following its acclaimed presentations in Weil am Rhein, Rotterdam, and Vienna, the highly anticipated exhibition Here We Are! Women in Design 1900 – Today arrives in Brussels. Curated by Susanne Graner, Viviane Stappmanns, and Nina Steinmüller from the Vitra Design Museum, the exhibition showcases a rich collection of creations that explore the contributions and working conditions of women in design from the early days of modernism to the present.
This journey through 120 years of design history highlights the diverse aspects of the field, viewed through the lens of the fight for equal rights and recognition for female designers.
Women have played a pivotal role in shaping modern design, both creatively and commercially, yet they often remain overlooked. This exhibition brings the spotlight to 80 female designers who have left an indelible mark on the design industry, including trailblazers like Charlotte Perriand, Eileen Gray, Lilly Reich, and Clara Porset, as well as entrepreneurs like Florence Knoll and Armi Ratia, and social activist Jane Addams. Structured chronologically into four sections, the exhibition offers fresh insights into modern and contemporary design.
